Section A Surah An-Nisā’ (4:1–10) — Justice Begins at Home Most people think Surah An-Nisā’ is primarily about women’s rights, inheritance, and family law. But Allah begins somewhere much deeper. Before speaking about laws, wealth, marriage, or inheritance, Allah addresses all of humanity: “O mankind! Fear your Lord, who created you from a single soul…” (4:1) This opening verse is the foundation of the entire surah. It reminds us that every human being shares the same Creator and the same origin. No race, tribe, nationality, wealth, social status, or gender makes one person inherently superior to another. The only true measure of honor is taqwa. From this foundation, Allah teaches that justice does not begin in courts or governments. It begins at home. A society cannot claim to be civilized if it neglects those who are most vulnerable.
